The 35-man Coles County Barbershop Chorus and six local quartets will perform their 37th Annual Christmas Benefit Concerts on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
A 4 p.m. concert is scheduled at Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston, and a second concert will be performed at 7 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Mattoon.
Both sites have adequate parking and are wheelchair accessible.
The concerts are free, however a special offering will be collected, every penny of which will go toward area homeless shelters and food pantry programs.
Last Christmas, nearly $4,000 was donated and the group hopes to duplicate that amount this year.
The singers come from 20 different communities: Altamont, Arcola, Arthur, Brocton, Champaign, Charleston, Effingham, Hindsboro, Mattoon, Neoga, Newman, Oakland, Palmer, Paris, Shelbyville, St. Elmo, Strasburg, Sullivan, Tuscola and Windsor.
The chorus placed second in statewide competition last spring and is well known for its participation in area church worship services. Their philanthropic efforts raise thousands of dollars each year for selected worthy causes.
